DYNASTY INCLUDING DIANA AT KENSINGTON PALACE

From her first public appearances Diana, Princess of Wales, captivated the world. Twenty years on from her death, a new exhibition and a temporary garden celebrating her life will be opened at Kensington Palace. Queen Victoria is often still seen as the stout, humourless black clad widow but there was a lot more to Queen Victoria than meets the eye. She was a fun loving and quite sexy woman, at times adored b y her people but at other times so despised that numerous attempts were made on her life. Our Blue Badge guide tells the story of the life, loves & deaths of two royal ladies a century apart in the London locations that they knew intimately and trace the evolution of the modern royal woman.

The tour is designed as a 2017 jam buster so you can begin at the Royal Albert Hall at 10.30am to buy morning refreshments, enjoy the walk, buy lunch at Kensington Palace (or bring a picnic) and after the visit to Kensington Palace start the journey home at 4.00pm. Or meet at the Royal Albert Hall at midday to buy an early lunch (there are reasonably priced light lunches on offer), start the walk at 1.00pm, have a longer visit to Kensington Palace and time to buy refreshments at the on site cafe and head home at 6.30pm on the tail of the rush hour.

We see the astonishing Albert Memorial as we make our way through Hyde Park to Kensington Gardens where for Spring & Summer 2017 the Royal Parks gardeners are creating a temporary White Garden in memory of Diana. It really isn’t far and walking through parks always seems that bit easier than the streets.

At Kensington Palace we focus on two special exhibitions: Victoria Revealed explores Queen Victoria’s long and fascinating life in her childhood home and Diana: Her Fashion Story traces Diana’s style from the demure and shy girl who wore the pale pink Emanuel blouse in Lord Snowdon’s 1981 engagement portrait to the glamorous and confidant jet setter who wore Victor Edelstein’s iconic ink blue velvet when she danced with John Travolta at the White House.

There’s a cafe at the Palace to buy tea before heading home at 4.00pm or if you began at midday you can buy tea here before leaving at 6.30pm.
